Michael Henry is a vocalist, composer, educator and music director who works across genres and disciplines. Trained as a clarinettist and composer at the Royal College of Music, he moved into work as a backing vocalist for international stars Chaka Khan, Diana Ross, Barry Manilow and the Pet Shop Boys. This was alongside the development of his classical work as a composer and vocalist for major British opera houses and European ensembles, as well as work as performer, composer and arranger for The Flying Pickets and The Shout.
Recent major compositions include his opera Circus Tricks for Tête à Tête, Rocket Symphony for Linz: European Capital of Culture, and Stand for BBC Proms. He was also vocal director and arranger on the soundtrack for science fiction webisode series RCVR.
Music Direction work includes Mr. Burns (Almeida Theatre), FEAST (Young Vic), The Amen Corner, Emperor And Galilean, FELA! and Death And The King’s Horseman, all at the National Theatre.
